Undecorating or Deconstructing Christmas

Today was a bittersweet day.  I decided to take down the decorations around the house.  Although, I love the way the house  looks when it is decorated, I also like the uncluttered look of “undecorated”.

Getting the Stink Eye from Tucker

I reminisce just as much when I take down the ornaments as when I put them up.  I use it as my quiet time to reflect.  Tucker joined me in taking down the tree.  Although he didn’t do much but give me the “look”.  I felt bad for him  He kind of  liked  the tree.  He’s so human, I thought I saw a tear.

Well I separated all the ornaments in to keeps and throws (actually donates), my husband put the tree to the curb (I know it still has hidden decorations on it) which I probably won’t miss til next year, if at all.  The needles are swept and the house is back to “normal” .  I await the next holiday …oh yeah, my Valentine dishrag is out already.

P.S.  Michael, I had a tough time finding that pickle.  You hid it well.

In a pickle!  What a wrinkly wrist.

Merry Christmas to you

Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

Things shifted slightly this year. The older adults were the ones doing the tequila shots while the young adults prepared their children for Santa’s early morning arrival.

Change is always in the air but family remains in our hearts with memories of Christmases past and looking forward to adventures of Christmases to come.

Tucker’s first Christmas with us!

Oh no, we were so busy in the merriment that we forgot to take a group photo. I feel terrible I didn’t arrange it, but I guess being and enjoying the moments will remain in my mind. It all went flying by too quickly.

Looking forward to a great dinner today by my daughter’s and being with my Ava and Liv and all the rest of the family. Can’t wait for the girls to say “play with me”

Looking forward to the new year.

Christmas Eve

Some of the girls of Christmas Eve last

Every year my husband and I host the Christmas Eve open house for our family and friends. Some years some guests may be people we don’t know, but someone else in our group knew would have no where else to go. We look forward to these unexpected guests.  One new addition this year is Tucker.

Since it is an open house, family and friends come and go throughout the night.  Some stay the night and celebrate Christmas morning with us. .

The kids are tempted by all the gifts under the tree.  They must ask a zillion times when they can open the gifts. I cannot wait for the girls to get here.  Come on already.  I am as excited as they are.

We celebrate with the feast of seven fishes. We want to cover all bases so sushi is included as an appetizer to ensure this. It might as well be called the feast of seventy fishes.

For the past, who knows how many years, we celebrate with  family and friends,  lotsa delish food,  Christmas party crackers (we pick up the confetti and little toys for months to follow) and, of course, drinks.  We end the night with tequila shots.  It is usually a very fun, festive time.

Although we have different friends and family come and go over the years, they will forever remain in our hearts on this special night  We do have a jolly ole time,  but we never forget the reason for the season.

Love & hugs to all.  Enjoy your night.
